Oliver Wethered was a leading figure in Cornish mining for over thirty years.Oliver Wethered was the Chairman of Geevor Tin Mine Ltd from 1911.

He was closely associated with the mining movement in Australia known as the "West Australian boom," but it was in connection with tin mining, particularly in Cornwall and Nigeria, that he was most prominently known.

“He was the best type of company director, acquainting himself to the fullest extent with the particular problems associated with his undertakings, forming his opinions independently and expressing them with perfect freedom.” The Mining Journal- May 2nd 1925

Oliver Wethered was connected with Mines all over the world: Dolcoath Mine (Chairman), Geevor Tin Mines (Chairman), Gurum River (Nigeria) Tin Mines (Chairman), Jantar Nigeria Co., Kalgoorlie Electric Tramways, Killifreth Mine (Chairman), Levant Tin Mines, Mongu (Nigeria) Tin Mines, Nigerian Tin Corporation (Chairman), Northern Nigeria (Bauchi) Tin Mines, Porkellis Tin Mines, Rayfield (Cornwall) Tin Syndicate (Chairman), Rayfield (Nigeria) Tin Fields (Chairman), Tehidy Minerals, W.A.G. Assets Co. (Chairman), and Wheal Vor (Chairman).
