Educational &
Specialist Visits

Photograph of walkers Geevor is an important educational resource of value for all ages. We are able to cater for school, college and university parties where the unique resources of the site will make any group visit an experience, with academic work reinforced by enjoyment. We aim to make learning interesting within the context of Cornwall's history. The importance of this mining region is allied to the growth of Cornwall as a tourist region with a history of shipping, farming, fishing, mine related industries, language, art and literature.

Geevor aims to show that Cornwall and West Penwith in particular are an integral and important part of the country's history.

Secondary and primary phases

You are welcome to contact us to discuss ways that your visit can fit in with elements of the National Curriculum. We can then structure your visit in the way that best suits your planning.

University Groups

Please contact us to discuss specific facilities that your students may require.

Special interest groups

We welcome groups with an interest in mining history, in the history of Cornwall, in the geology of our landscape. Geevor is an ideal situation for sketching and painting, and of course the quality of the light in Cornwall is amazing; art groups are welcome.

Oral history studies

From July 2002 an Oral History project has been run from Geevor, focusing on the memories of all people in the local area. We now have an extensive collection of recordings and photographs; the past really comes to life. Ask us how the Oral History Project can be used in your educational planning. Click here to vist the Oral History section.

Facilities for groups

For pre-booked visits we have a small education room where you can base yourselves. You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch or the Count House café at Geevor can provide packed lunches if booked in advance. School parties can eat in the education room or use one of the grassed picnic areas. Toilets are situated by the car park and there are also toilets in the museum building, and more toilets, including one for disabled visitors in the café/shop complex. There is an on site shop which sells a variety of Cornish made gifts and jewellery, cast tin ingots, mining memorabilia and mineral specimens from pocket

Research

If your interest is individual research it would assist us if you email museum@geevor.com or contact us by telephone beforehand for an appointment with our curator. We can then discuss your requirements in order to ascertain that information to support your particular research is available and can be made accessible at the time you require.
